Helping You Understand Attorney Fees
At Tamera C. Trindade, CFLS* Attorney and Counselor at Law, we are dedicated to protecting our clients’ best interests at all stages throughout the legal process. We demonstrate our commitment to our clients’ cases not only in the customized strategies we create but also in the cost-conscious services we provide.
It is important to us that you understand your financial obligations before you commit to a course of action. For this reason, we provide detailed bills on a timely basis. Our invoices clearly reveal the work we have completed in the billing cycle, the hours billed in this period and formula used to calculate our legal fees.
Courts May Award Attorney Fees For These Reasons
In California, family law courts may also require one party to pay attorney fees in these circumstances:
- To address financial need. If one party earns less than the other, the spouse with the higher income may be ordered to cover the other party’s legal fees.
- To penalize the spouse who fails to follow a court order or provide required documents
- To penalize the party that fails to act in good faith during proceedings
Although the court may order the other party to pay legal fees, it can take a significant amount of time to collect these fees. Creating a realistic budget that accounts for both attorney and court fees will ensure that you make decisions that are economical and beneficial.
